Basketball Coaches attend Level 1 Technical Course

Thimphu, Bhutan: Some 26 Basketball coaches are currently attending a Technical Course organized by the Bhutan Basketball Federation in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee, funded by the Olympic Solidarity in the capital city of Thimphu.
The program which is conducted by a Federation International Basketball Association (FIBA) certified Coach, Veselin Matic provides theory based learning in the morning sessions and practical sessions in the afternoon.

“There is a lot of potential for basketball in Bhutan, with basketball being the number two sport in the country I see a lot of room for enhancement” Coach Matic.

The Federation hopes that such course will help the coaches improve their knowledge about the game and help them hone their skills. The BBF hopes that this will assist in the development of the sport in the country.

“We need to improve the level of our coaches and referees before setting out towards improving basketball in general. We are certain that such initiatives, this being the first, will help us lead toward achieving our goal of developing basketball in the country. We would like to thank the International Olympic Committee (Olympic Solidarity) and the Bhutan Olympic Committee for giving us this opportunity.” Kuenga Gyaltshen, Officiating General Secretary, BBF.

The course mainly helps the participants understand the technical aspects of the game and also help in making them understand the importance of sportsmanship, leadership and discipline.

“It’s a really good opportunity for us to learn from a well revered coach. I’ve learnt so much over the past 10 days about the technicality that goes into the game and I am optimistic that I can apply whatever I have learnt towards the development of basketball together with the Federation” Sangay Wangmo, coach.

The participants of the program mostly consist of coaches, school sports instructors and referees that are affiliated to the Federation. The program started on the 1st of February and will end on the 10th of February.
