THREE YOUNG ATHLETES, ONE NATIONAL DREAM: BHUTAN PREPARES FOR THE 2026 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES
Representing three different sporting disciplines, Bhutan’s young athletes Pema Yoezer, Sangay Peldon and Sangay Thinley bring a shared commitment to excellence and national pride to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. With six months of athletics experience, Pema is determined to embrace his first major competitive opportunity and gain valuable international exposure. Sangay Peldon, with eight years of boxing experience and notable gold-medal achievements, aims to establish herself internationally while inspiring more girls to pursue sports. Meanwhile, eight-year judo practitioner Sangay Thinley dreams of winning gold and becoming a world champion. United by discipline, perseverance and the ambition to make Bhutan proud, the three athletes represent the determination and promise of Bhutan’s emerging sporting generation.
While athletics, boxing and judo demand different physical abilities and approaches, the experiences of these three athletes reveal several common values that define their sporting journeys. Discipline, perseverance, self-belief and the willingness to learn from setbacks remain central to their preparation. Their stories also highlight the important role played by families, teachers and coaches in nurturing young sporting talent and providing the encouragement needed to pursue ambitious goals.
For these young athletes, representing Bhutan is not simply about competing in an international sporting event. It is an opportunity to carry their country’s name onto a global platform, learn from the international sporting community and demonstrate the potential of Bhutanese youth. Their ambitions extend beyond medals and personal achievements, reflecting a desire to inspire other young people to participate in sport, overcome limitations and believe in what they can accomplish through dedication and hard work.
As they prepare for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Pema Yoezer, Sangay Peldon and Sangay Thinley each carry a different dream, but share one national purpose: to give their best and represent Bhutan with pride. Their journeys demonstrate that sporting excellence is built not only through victories but also through commitment, courage, and the determination to keep moving forward.
For Bhutan, their participation represents an important opportunity to showcase its emerging sporting talent and encourage the next generation to pursue their ambitions. Whether on the athletics track, inside the boxing ring or on the judo tatami, these three young athletes carry the promise of a determined generation ready to embrace new challenges and make their mark on the international stage.
