Accelerated Sport Science Course

The National Coaching Academy is pleased to invite nominations for the Crash Foundational Sport Science Course, scheduled from 15 June to 5 July 2026 (20 days). This intensive course is designed to strengthen the scientific knowledge and practical competencies of coaches and sports practitioners, enabling them to apply evidence-based approaches to athlete development, performance enhancement, and injury prevention.

Sports Experiential and Project-Based Learning

Under the aegis of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, the National Coaching Academy is committed to promoting innovative, learner-centered approaches to coach education. In line with this philosophy, traditional quizzes and written tests within the Crash Foundational Sport Science Course will be replaced by Model Making Activities that emphasize experiential and project-based learning. This approach recognizes that coaching is not merely the acquisition of theoretical knowledge but the practical application of scientific principles to real-world sporting environments.

Through model making, participants actively engage with concepts, transforming abstract sport science theories into visual, practical, and contextually relevant coaching tools. Rather than memorizing facts for examinations, coaches will construct models, frameworks, diagrams, prototypes, and practical plans that demonstrate their understanding of anatomy, physiology, movement science, nutrition, sport psychology, injury management, and periodization.

The model-making approach encourages creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation—qualities that are essential for effective coaching in contemporary sport. Participants will be challenged to design sport-specific solutions and coaching resources that can be directly implemented within schools, clubs, academies, and national sports programs across Bhutan.

Furthermore, this method aligns with the principles of adult learning, where learners gain deeper understanding through active participation, reflection, and application. It also supports the Bhutan Olympic Committee’s vision of developing competent, evidence-based coaches capable of integrating scientific knowledge into athlete development and performance enhancement.

At the conclusion of the programme, participants will showcase their models and projects in a Sport Science Exhibition, demonstrating not only their knowledge but also their ability to translate theory into practice. This ensures that learning outcomes extend beyond certification and contribute directly to the advancement of coaching and athlete development in Bhutan.
