Empowering Athletes, Elevating Bhutan

Bhutan Shooting Federation

The roots of shooting sports in Bhutan trace back to 1988, when His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, gave a royal command to introduce shooting as a sport in the country.

This visionary step aimed to diversify the sporting culture and offer Bhutanese athletes new opportunities for competitive success. In its early years, the establishment of shooting sports faced significant challenges. However, with the support of the monarchy and the commitment of the government and the Bhutan Olympic Committee, the Bhutan Shooting Federation (BSF) was eventually formed to oversee and regulate the sport.

The Federations’ initial years were focused on setting up the basic infrastructure, including shooting ranges and organizing training for a small group of dedicated athletes. It was through these efforts that shooting sports began to take root, primarily in the Punakha School, and gradually it was shifted to the capital, Thimphu.

Over the years, the BSF has worked tirelessly to develop the sport, offering training programs and competing at various international levels. Though the journey has been challenging, Bhutanese athletes have participated in global competitions, continuing to build the country’s presence in the international shooting sports arena.

As the sport continues to evolve, the BSF remains committed to developing shooting talent from grassroots levels, fostering inclusivity, and contributing to Bhutan’s representation in world-class competitions.

Motto: “Empowering Athletes, Elevating Bhutan”

“Shaping The Future Of Bhutan’s Shooting Sports As A Beacon Of Integrity, Excellence, And Inclusivity, Envisioning A Thriving Landscape Nationwide, Inspiring Skilled Athletes, Fostering Community Cohesion, And Amplifying Bhutan’s Global Presence.”
