1st Indo- Bhutan Big bore Shooting Championship

Mr. Raninder Singh, the President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), officials and athletes of the association are visiting Bhutan to participate in the first ever Indo-Bhutan Big Bore shooting championship (IBSC), to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo. The objective of the event is to promote the sport of shooting and uplift the standard of shooting in Bhutan. In this regard, as big bore shooting is a new sport for the Bhutan shooting federation, 10 Bhutanese shooters, 8 men and 2 women were trained in modern shooting techniques and skills in India. The Bhutanese big bore shooting team will consist of 6 men and 6 women. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and the Bhutan Shooting Federation (BSF), on a rotation basis, will conduct the Indo-Bhutan shooting championship among the shooters of India and Bhutan, every year. Such friendly competitions with India will also help further strengthen the already strong relationship, peace and harmony amongst the people of India and Bhutan. The Bhutan Shooting Federation was established in 1997 by the then minister for trade and industry, Lyonpo Om Pradhan under the patronage of His Majesty the King Jigme Kheser Namgyal Wangchuck. Shooting as a sport is still in its infancy in Bhutan and the federation aims to promote and popularize the sport in the country and train potential shooters to achieve international acclaim.

Signing of Memorandum of Agreement between M/s Drangchu Beverages (Pepsi) and Bhutan Olympic committee

Mr. Karma Shacha, Managing Director of M/s Drangchu Beverages (Pepsi) will be signing a memorandum of agreement with the Bhutan Olympic committee and the Bhutan Basketball Federation on 20thof October, 2014. Recognizing the importance of private sector participation in the development of sports in the nation, M/s Drangchu Beverages agreed to support the National Basketball league of Bhutan Basketball Federation and Nub-Wang Mountain Bike Race. The League was established in 2013 March by the Bhutan Basketball Federation to take basketball to provide youth with an opportunity to experience the benefits of playing Basketball and promote a vibrant and sustainable club culture in Bhutan. As expressed by the Mr. Tokey Dorji, General Secretary of Bhutan Basketball Federation “ with the youth of Bhutan showing great interest in forming clubs, we aim to use this opportunity to inculcate values and life skills in our youth”. As per the MOA this partnership will provide the Bhutan Basketball Federation and the Bhutan Olympic Committee, resources to ensure the successful organization of the events. Mr. Sonam Karma Tshering, secretary general of the Bhutan Olympic Committee stated that the private sector was one of the most important stakeholders for the development of sports in the nation and that such alliances would help reinforce the sustainability of the sports sector and its development. M/s Drangchu Beverages will provide the Bhutan Basketball Federation and the Bhutan Olympic committee with financial support of Nu. 595,000/- for the National Basketball League and Nu.600, 000/- for the Nub-Wang Mountain Bike Race. The Memorandum of Agreement will remain in effect for a period of 3 years and will cover the organization of 3 editions of the National Basketball League and Nub-Wang Mountain Biking Race.
