The Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation will be organizing the 9th Coronation Marathon on 2nd June 2016 in Haa Dzongkhag. Only the participants of age 16 years and above are allowed to participate. This year the marathon is dedicated to the Birth Anniversary of Gyalsey and have 3 categories: Men’s Full Marathon: 42.195 kms. Men’s Half Marathon: 21 kms. and Women’s Half Marathon: 21 kms. Thimphu, Bhutan: The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) and Drukair Corporation Ltd. (DCL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking Drukair as the BOC’s official carrier for a period of 2 years. The MoU was signed between the Chief Executive Officer of Drukair and the Secretary General of the BOC at the Changlingmethang National Stadium.

First Annual General Meeting (AGM) was chaired by Dasho Pema Chewang, President, Bhutan Volleyball Federation (BVF), in Thimphu on 29th March, 2016. The General Secretary of the BVF and member secretaries from ten Dzongkhag Sports Associations (DSA) attended the AGM. The objective of the AGM was to involve members secretaries of the DSAs in the decision making of the federation.

DANTAK Open Mountain Bike Race was first organized in April 2011 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Project DANTAK. The Race has now become an annual affair and attracts large participation from people of all age groups. This race is organized in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee and other Departments of the Royal Government of Bhutan. The route for the race is Thimphu-Paro-Thimphu, which covers approx. a distance of 90 kms (Starting from Changlimithang Parking and finishing at the Clock Tower Square, Thimphu). A first ever week long National Volleyball Championship (14th to 20th March, 2016) kick started today at the Changlingmethang, Thimphu.  The Championship is organized by the Bhutan Volleyball Federation and is sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Seven teams from various Dzongkhag Sports Associations are participating in the championships: Phuentsholing Sports Association, Paro Sports Association, Haa Sports Association, Wangduephodrang Sports Association, Tsirang Sports Association, Sarpang-Gelephu Sports Association and Trashigang Sports Association. Championship is played on league and knock-out round. Following are the cash prizes: Winner: Nu. 50,000/- 1st Runners Up: Nu. 30,000/- 2nd Runners up: Nu. 10,000/-  

Training of  Trainers Program for the BOC Foundation in Youth Sports Coaching Course is currently going on. The course started on the 29th Feb. and will end on the 5th March, 2016 (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The course is conducted at the Conference Hall, Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation [located near Lungtenzampa]. The course is organized by the Bhutan Olympic Committee and is Funded by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development Project.

Royal Thimphu College (RTC) & the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) jointly announce the availability of 6 sports scholarships (2 – Basketball, 2 – Football and 2 – Open category) for the academic year 2016. Equal number of slots will be provided for male and female candidates (1 male and 1 female for each category).  The scholarship will cover all tuition and boarding costs for 3 years. Applicants who meet the RTC admissions criteria with outstanding sporting achievements may apply.
