HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck Graces Team Building Session on Sports Ecosystem 2.0
His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck graced an interactive session on Sports Ecosystem 2.0 yesterday, bringing together the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) and representatives of National Sports Federations (NSFs) for a day of learning, collaboration and team building.
Facilitated by the Build Team, the session aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the ongoing ecosystem upgrade initiatives, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of the BOC and NSFs, the Shared Services model, the Minimum Viable Federation (MVF) framework and the annual performance compact.
Addressing the gathering, His Royal Highness acknowledged the dedication of those who have contributed to the development of Bhutanese sports over the years, often through voluntary service and with limited resources. His Royal Highness also recognised the achievements of Bhutanese athletes, including their recent performances at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Highlighting the vision behind Sports Ecosystem 2.0, His Royal Highness emphasised the importance of ensuring that every young person in Bhutan, regardless of where they live or study, has access to a coach, a fair opportunity to participate in sports and a clear pathway for development.
His Royal Highness outlined the importance of two key instruments: the MVF, which establishes 47 basic requirements for federation operations, with particular emphasis on eight essential areas, and the annual performance compact, which sets out the commitments of each federation and the BOC.
His Royal Highness highlighted the need for sound governance, transparent resource management and greater accountability. Through the Shared Services model, the BOC will support federations in establishing essential systems, with responsibilities gradually transferred as they develop the capacity to manage them independently.
Participants were encouraged to approach the process with openness and a willingness to learn. His Royal Highness stressed the importance of evidence-based assessments, constructive dialogue and practical support tailored to each federation’s needs.

Following the educational session, participants gathered for lunch before taking part in a series of recreational and team-building activities. Archery and khuru, alongside fun group games, brought participants together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Beyond the fun and friendly competition, the activities encouraged communication, trust and teamwork, reinforcing the importance of collaboration across the sporting community. The programme provided an opportunity for participants to connect beyond their professional roles and strengthen relationships in support of a shared vision.
