Kinga Wangmo Ready for Her Asian Games Boxing Debut Tomorrow

The final chapter of Team Bhutan’s boxing campaign at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will unfold tomorrow, with Kinga Wangmo set to step into the ring in the women’s 54kg category.
Kinga will be the third and final Bhutanese boxer to compete at these Games, following Migma Dorji in the men’s 55kg and Kinley Phuntsho in the men’s 60kg categories. She is also the only female boxer in Bhutan’s contingent, giving her appearance added significance for the team.
For Kinga, though, tomorrow is about more than simply being the final boxer from Bhutan to compete. It is another opportunity to test herself against international opposition after gaining valuable experience on the regional boxing circuit.
Her most notable recent result came at the 2025 Four Nations Boxing Championship in Thimphu, where she won gold in the women’s 57kg category, defeating India’s Sapkota Ashsani Kumari by unanimous decision. The championship brought together boxers from Bhutan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh and gave Kinga another important taste of international competition.
That experience has helped shape her ambitions for the Asian Games. Speaking ahead of the competition, Kinga said, “I am aiming to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. If that is not possible, I hope to win at least two or three bouts and contribute to enhancing Bhutan’s and the Bhutan Olympic Committee’s reputation. I also hope that my participation will encourage more Bhutanese women to take up boxing and compete at the international level.”
At 27, and competing at her third international competition, Kinga now faces another step up in competition in the 54kg division. Her Asian Games journey has already included a memorable moment outside the ring. Kinga was one of Bhutan’s two flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony, walking alongside recurve archer Kinley Tshering as they led the Bhutanese delegation into the stadium with the national flag.
The official boxing schedule has placed the women’s 54kg preliminary bouts on September 25, with sessions scheduled in both the afternoon and evening. Kinga’s individual bout time and opponent are expected to be confirmed tomorrow morning.
For Team Bhutan, it will be the final appearance of a boxer at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. For Kinga Wangmo, it will be another chance to step into the ring, put her preparation to the test and see how far she can take herself on the Asian Games stage.
