Kinley Tshering and Kinga Wangmo named Bhutan’s flag bearers for Asian Games 2026
Recurve archer Kinley Tshering and boxer Kinga Wangmo have been confirmed as Bhutan’s flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
The two athletes will carry Bhutan’s national flag and lead the Bhutanese delegation during the Parade of Athletes at the opening ceremony on September 19 in Japan. Kinley Tshering will represent Bhutan in recurve archery, while Kinga Wangmo will compete in the women’s 54kg boxing category at the Games. Both are part of Bhutan’s delegation for Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Being selected as a flag bearer is one of the most visible ceremonial honours for an athlete at a major international sporting event. The flag bearers lead their respective delegations into the stadium during the opening ceremony, representing their countries before an international audience.
For Kinga Wangmo, the selection comes as she prepares to make her appearance in the women’s 54kg boxing competition. She is the only female boxer in Bhutan’s contingent for the Games. Kinley Tshering, meanwhile, will compete in recurve archery as part of Bhutan’s archery contingent.
The opening ceremony will officially mark the beginning of Bhutan’s participation in the 20th Asian Games, with the country’s athletes set to compete across their respective disciplines. The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games will be held from September 19 to October 4 in Japan.
