Students from four schools begins a 12-Day journey into
Peer Coaching and Refeering
Thimphu, July 1 – The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) officially launched its Summer Peer Coaching and Refeering today at the National Coaching Academy in Thimphu. The 12-day program is being attended by enthusiastic students from four different schools, offering them a unique opportunity to dive deep into the fundamentals of sports science and athlete development.
Organized by the BOC, the program aims to nurture young talents by combining classroom learning with hands-on training experiences. Over the course of nearly two weeks, participants will be introduced to core concepts such as human anatomy, basic biomechanics, fundamentals of movement, and principles of sports performance. Sessions on sport nutrition and periodization will help students understand how athletes prepare their bodies and minds throughout different training phases.
In the middle phase of the course, the focus will shift to practical sessions on strength training and designing individualized training plans. Participants will also be grouped into teams to work on sport-specific modules, giving them a chance to apply theory into practice. Group presentations, daily reflections, and practical demonstrations will be an integral part of the learning experience.
Towards the end of the program, students will engage in intensive sport-specific training sessions, allowing them to gain hands-on experience tailored to their chosen disciplines. The program will culminate with a certification and closing ceremony on the final day, acknowledging the efforts and progress made by each participant.

Speaking at the opening, Tsultrim, one of the key facilitators of the program, said, “This program is not just about teaching technical knowledge—it’s about exposing young people to the real world of sport and helping them develop the discipline, teamwork, and understanding that athletes and coaches live by.” He added, “We are excited to see how these students grow over the next 12 days—not just in skill, but in confidence and purpose.”
The Program is an initiative of the Bhutan Olympic Committee aimed to make younger generations to understand fundamentals of sports science and athlete development, while also identifying potential talent for the future in this field.
