Mr. Raninder Singh, the President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), officials and athletes of the association are visiting Bhutan to participate in the first ever Indo-Bhutan Big Bore shooting championship (IBSC), to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo.

The objective of the event is to promote the sport of shooting and uplift the standard of shooting in Bhutan. In this regard, as big bore shooting is a new sport for the Bhutan shooting federation, 10 Bhutanese shooters, 8 men and 2 women were trained in modern shooting techniques and skills in India. The Bhutanese big bore shooting team will consist of 6 men and 6 women.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and the Bhutan Shooting Federation (BSF), on a rotation basis, will conduct the Indo-Bhutan shooting championship among the shooters of India and Bhutan, every year. Such friendly competitions with India will also help further strengthen the already strong relationship, peace and harmony amongst the people of India and Bhutan.

The Bhutan Shooting Federation was established in 1997 by the then minister for trade and industry, Lyonpo Om Pradhan under the patronage of His Majesty the King Jigme Kheser Namgyal Wangchuck. Shooting as a sport is still in its infancy in Bhutan and the federation aims to promote and popularize the sport in the country and train potential shooters to achieve international acclaim.
