Tshoki Wangmo, 9 years old, studying at the Utpal Junior School in the 5th grade has never had the opportunity to experience Olympic Style Archery in her life, however, she got the opportunity to learn and shoot a few arrows at the Olympic Day Celebrations (ODC).
To everybody’s surprise, Tshering managed hitting the bulls-eye twice with the help of the coaches and athletes from the National Archery Federation and the Bhutan Olympic Committee.
Since 1984, the Olympic Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic games. The Olympic Day is celebrated in more than 160 countries by thousands of people all over the world.
In keeping with its vision of taking sports to all youth in the country, the Bhutan Olympic Committee organized the Olympic Day Celebration at the Paro College of Education in western Bhutan.
Although seen as international effort to promote fitness and well-being, the Bhutan Olympic Committee tried to engage as many sports enthusiast as possible to let them experience the Olympic Values of Friendship, Respect and Excellence.
Over 1,400 students from 23 different schools in Paro participated in the celebrations, which included a 2.5 KM fun walk and a fun festival involving different sports such as Athletics, Football, Badminton, Basketball, Shooting, Archery, Boxing, Fitness & Bodybuilding and Table Tennis.
Last year, the Olympic Day celebration was organized in Bumthang, central Bhutan with about 1500 participants.
