Live the Adventure to host the “Son of the Dragon”

Subsequent to winning the 2015 edition of the Tour of the Dragon held on the 5th September, 2015 in Bhutan, Mr. Anthony Eddies-Davies, Director of Live the Adventure, a company based at the Old Vicarage, Stottesdon, Kidderminster, in the United Kingdom agreed to sponsor Mr. Sonam to visit the United Kingdom and support his training and participation in some of the most renowned extreme international mountain bike races held in Bristol and Mayhem. The two races are scheduled to take place in June, 2016. Following are the details of the races: Bristol BikeFest – www.bike-fest.com           11th June, 2016, 12 Hours mountain bike race       2. Mountain Mayhem – www.mountain-mayhem.com            18 – 19 June, 2016, 24 Hours mountain bike race. Sonam, 39, from Amankora Resorts, Paro, Bhutan is one of the top cyclists in Bhutan and has won the title “Son of the Dragon” in 2012, 2013 and 2015 editions of the Tour of the Dragon races. During his stay in the United Kingdom, Mr. Sonam will not only receive training from the professional coach on the international level, train with cyclists who race on the international circuits and gain experience but also represent Bhutan in the above races since he has been limited to the few races offered per year in Bhutan. The Bhutan Olympic Committee recognizes that such opportunity for top Bhutanese cyclists will go a long way in promoting the sport of cycling in Bhutan. Mr. Sonam shall return back to Bhutan as soon as he completes all his training and participation in the international races. Thereafter he will work with our young cyclists and help them develop, based on all the he will learn in the United Kingdom.

Multi-Sports Hall ground breaking ceremony at Jungshina, Thimphu.

The Bhutan Olympic Committee in partnership with the Korean Sports Promotion Organisation (KSPO) will be constructing a Multi sports hall at  Jungshina, Thimphu. The total project cost is USD 600,000.00 and will also include the development of the project site and procurement of sports equipment. His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, the Representative of His Majesty the King and the President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, presided over the ground breaking ceremony which took place at 10:00 AM of the 27th of May, 2016. Madam Elisa Lee, Hon’ble member of the National Assembly of Korea, a delegation from the Korean Sports Promotion Organisation led by Mr. Yoon Woo Shin, and other distinguished guests from Thimphu Thromde and community representatives from Jungshina were present to witness the ground breaking ceremony.

BOC Sports Excellence & Achievement Scholarship- 2016

Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) and the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) jointly announce the availability of up to 10 ‘Sports Excellence and Achievement Scholarships (SEA Scholarship)’ for the academic year 2016 in RUB Constituent Colleges. The scholarship will cover all tuition and boarding costs for 3 years. Applicants who meet the RUB admissions criteria with outstanding sporting achievement may apply. Priority shall be given to the current national athletes.

9th Coronation Marathon: 2nd June, 2016 in Haa.

The Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation will be organizing the 9th Coronation Marathon on 2nd June 2016 in Haa Dzongkhag. Only the participants of age 16 years and above are allowed to participate. This year the marathon is dedicated to the Birth Anniversary of Gyalsey and have 3 categories: Men’s Full Marathon: 42.195 kms. Men’s Half Marathon: 21 kms. and Women’s Half Marathon: 21 kms. Signing of MoU between BOC and Drukair Corporation Limited

Thimphu, Bhutan: The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) and Drukair Corporation Ltd. (DCL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking Drukair as the BOC’s official carrier for a period of 2 years. The MoU was signed between the Chief Executive Officer of Drukair and the Secretary General of the BOC at the Changlingmethang National Stadium.

1st Annual General Meeting for Volleyball, 29th March, 2016

First Annual General Meeting (AGM) was chaired by Dasho Pema Chewang, President, Bhutan Volleyball Federation (BVF), in Thimphu on 29th March, 2016. The General Secretary of the BVF and member secretaries from ten Dzongkhag Sports Associations (DSA) attended the AGM. The objective of the AGM was to involve members secretaries of the DSAs in the decision making of the federation.

DANTAK Open Mountain Bike Race: 24th April, 2016

DANTAK Open Mountain Bike Race was first organized in April 2011 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Project DANTAK. The Race has now become an annual affair and attracts large participation from people of all age groups. This race is organized in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee and other Departments of the Royal Government of Bhutan. The route for the race is Thimphu-Paro-Thimphu, which covers approx. a distance of 90 kms (Starting from Changlimithang Parking and finishing at the Clock Tower Square, Thimphu).
