A recent survey conducted during the recent Olympic Day Celebrations in Gedu on the on 2nd of May, 2013 showed that Baseball was among the the top 5 sports that children wished to experience in the next Olympic Day. Baseball, although a every popular sport in the west, many do not know how to play the sport in the country. Pioneered by the United States and played in major countries like Canada, Korea and Japan, not many Bhutanese have heard or even seen the sport of baseball in their lives.

A joint baseball coaching programme between the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the JICA and JOCV representatives in Bhutan will help promote the sport of Baseball in the country and also help strengthen the relationship between Bhutan and Japan.

Some 50 students took part in the first day at the CICCC ground on Saturday. A team will be selected amongst the participants who will represent Bhutan at the World Children’s Baseball Fair in Japan in August. This program is aimed to give participants the opportunity to learn basic skills of Baseball, teamwork and Japanese culture.
