Executive Board Meeting of the South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC)

The Executive Board Meeting of the SAOC was held on 3rd of December, 2016, in Kathmandu, Nepal. His Excellency Mr. Daljit B.K. Shreepali, Minister of the Youth and Sports Ministry welcomed the delegates with a traditional khadar and inaugurated the ceremony by lighting a butter lamp. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, President of Nepal NOC, chaired the meeting. The following delegates attended the meeting: Mrs. Jyoti Rana, Vice President, Nepal NOC Tendi Lama Sherpa, Secretary General, Nepal NOC Sujan Lal Shrestha, Executive Secretary, Nepal NOC Nilendra Raj Shrestha, Member, Nepal NOC Gen. (Retd) Fakhruddin Haider, Director General, Bangladesh NOC Sonam Karma Tshering, Secretary General, Bhutan NOC Jigme Thinley, Asst. Program Officer, Bhutan NOC Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General, Pakistan NOC Charles W.D. Henry, Vice President, Sri Lanka NOC Maxwell P.N. De Silva, Secretary General, Sri Lanka NOC   Representatives from the following NOCs were absent: India NOC, and Maldives NOC   Following were the agenda for the meeting: Adoption and confirmation of new office bearers of SAOC Finalization of the date of the XIII SAG, 2018 Discussion on amendment of constitution of SAOC Others: Headquarters for SAOC   All the NOC delegates agreed and finalized the dates of the XIII South Asian Games to be held from the 9th to 18th of March in 2019.

JUDO WINTER CAMP

JUDO WINTER CAMP The Bhutan Judo Association will conduct Judo training camps during the winter break for both advanced Judo players and beginners. The course is open to all. There are two venues and schedules: 1. For beginners (grassroots) Venue: YDF building (near Karma’s Coffee) Days: Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Time: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. 2. For beginners and advanced Venue: Bhutan Judo Association dojo at Pelkhil School Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday.  Time: For beginners: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m (grassroots course), & for seniors: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (advanced course) Coaches: Coach Miyu Uchida (JICA) and Assistant Coach Pema Dargay. 2nd India-Bhutan Friendship Tennis Championship: 6th to 13th November, 2016

Bhutan Tennis Federation (BTF) is organizing 2nd India-Bhutan Friendship Tennis Championship from 6th to 13th November, 2016, at the National Tennis Center, Changlingmethang. Players from Assam, West Bengal, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal and Darjeeling are participating in the Championship. Interested Bhutanese players may register with BTF on or before 4th November, 2016. 35th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Da Nang, Vietnam

  25th September Da Nang, Vietnam: His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, His Majesty’s Representative and the President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee attend the 35th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Da Nang, Vietnam on the sidelines of the 5th Asian Beach Games.   As the Chairman of the International Relations Committee, HRH’s address to the General Assembly highlighted the importance of communication between the 45 National Olympic Committees under the OCA. “The International Relations Committee is committed in fostering new relationships, strengthening existing ones and mending old ties within the Olympic Family. The IRC is committed to serve the best interests of the OCA and to promote the Olympic Movement in Asia” HRH Prince Jigyel.   The International Relations Committee is responsible to facilitate and promote relationships between the Olympic Movement, particularly the Olympic Council of Asia, National Olympic Committees, International Olympic Committee, International and Asian Sports Federations and various government and public authorities.   Currently the Olympic Council of Asia has 17 standing committees to assist in the execution of its mandate. The powers of the Olympic Council of Asia are exercised through 3 organs; namely the General Assembly, the Executive Board and the President.   Apart from the updates of the existing Games organizing committees, the General Assembly confirmed the host of OCA’s 20th edition of the Asian Games: Nagoya City and Aichi Prefecture in Japan 2026. This will follow the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia, in2018 and the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2022.   Bhutan is taking part in the 3×3 Beach Basketball at the 5th Asian Beach Games. The women’s team will play Chinese Taipei in the opening game of the competition tomorrow at 3:00 pm local time. The men’s team is scheduled to play Laos at 4:40 pm local time.
