Dragon Fury Mountain Bike Race 2025
The Dragon Fury Mountain Bike Race 2025 is Bhutan’s premier cycling challenge, a 70 km test of endurance, strength, and spirit. First launched in 2015 to honour the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the race has since become a signature event for mountain biking in Bhutan, drawing elite riders and adventure enthusiasts from across the globe.
The route begins in Bajo Town, Wangdue Phodrang (1,410 m), winds past historic landmarks like Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, also known as Wangdi Dzong, is a historic fortress and administrative center in Bhutan. It was originally built in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and ascends the legendary Dochula Pass (3,150 m)—a climb that tests even the strongest legs with gradients of up to 10%. From the mist-covered chortens of Dochula, riders descend into the capital, finishing triumphantly at Thimphu’s Changlimithang Stadium. The combination of rugged Himalayan terrain and cultural backdrops makes this race unlike any other in the world.
In 2025, the Dragon Fury takes on profound national significance as it commemorates the 70th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Every climb, every descent, and every finish is more than a sporting achievement—it is a living tribute to a monarch whose wisdom, compassion, and vision continue to shape Bhutan’s journey.
This year’s edition is not just about crossing the finish line. It is about honouring legacy, celebrating unity, and showcasing Bhutan as one of the most inspiring destinations for international mountain biking events. Through the fury of mountains, we ride together—for challenge, for pride, and for His Majesty.
