Seoul, Korea: Decisions made in the boardroom show up on the field of play, said longtime international Olympic Committee member Ivan Dibos of Peru, arguing for good governance at a conference Monday at the Shilla Hotel.
Speaking at the International Sport Conference, Dibos noted that sport has become more than just a game. It can inspire and influence a society or a country as a whole. Thus, he said, transparency, integrity and democracy of its governing bodies needs to be assured.
As a sport enthusiast and a former Olympian himself, Dibos said he hopes decisions made for the betterment of sports at every level comes collectively with thorough research and not made by a single person with negative ties.
Also speaking Monday were Anita L. Defrantz, an IOC Executive board member from the United States and Min Gyo Koo a Seoul National University Professor.
Earlier in the week, Dibos also presented a special lecture to students at Seoul National University’s Dream Together Master’s Program. He said he hoped that he offered the diverse group of aspiring sports administrators some insight on sports organizations governance structures.
