Migma Dorji Opens Team Bhutan’s Tuesday Campaign in the Ring
Nagoya, Japan | 21 September 2026
Migma Dorji will open Team Bhutan’s competition on Tuesday when he faces Bangladesh’s Utsob Ahmed in the men’s 55kg preliminary round at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
The bout is scheduled for 6:00 PM Japan time at Nishio Gymnasium, marking the first of four competitions involving Bhutanese athletes across the day.
For Migma, the contest represents another important step in a developing international boxing career and an opportunity to put his preparation to the test on one of Asia’s biggest sporting stages.
The Bhutanese boxer enters the tournament as part of the Bhutan Elite Athlete Support and Training (BEAST) programme, initiated by the Bhutan Olympic Committee as part of its athlete development and high-performance pathway. Migma is currently supported under the Silver category of the programme.
His opponent, Utsob Ahmed, brings considerable experience of his own. The Bangladeshi boxer has represented his country at international competitions and has built a reputation through domestic and regional competition. He has also competed in Bhutan, winning gold at the Four Nations International Boxing Championship.
That experience gives Tuesday’s contest a competitive edge, but Migma arrives with his own preparations behind him.
The Bhutanese boxer has been working through an intensive training programme focused on conditioning, technique, combinations, movement and tactical work under Head Coach Norveis Sanchez Nunez. For the coaching team, the objective is straightforward: execute what has been built in training once the bell rings.
“We have prepared for this moment. Migma knows what he has to do. We respect the opponent, but our focus is on our own boxing, our discipline and our plan. Once the bell rings, everything comes down to what we have worked for.”
— Norveis Sanchez Nunez, Head Coach, Team Bhutan Boxing
Migma, meanwhile, knows the significance of the occasion.
“I have trained hard for this Asian Games and I am ready to give everything in the ring. I know the responsibility I carry, and I want to show what I can do for Bhutan.”
The 55kg preliminary bout could therefore set the tone for Bhutan’s Tuesday campaign. A victory would send Migma into the next stage of the competition, while also giving Team Bhutan an early result as the country continues its campaign at the Asian Games.
But the focus inside the Bhutanese camp remains on the bout itself. At 6:00 PM on Tuesday, Migma Dorji will walk to the ring. And when the bell rings, the preparation ends and the fight begins.
For Migma, and for Bhutan, it is time to box.
