The Olympic Council of Asia’s Fun Run + Learn series has moved on to Bhutan to promote the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, in 2014. Having already hosted a Fun Run two years ago, the Bhutan Olympic Committee will hold just two elements of the series this time – a Fun Learn quiz on Friday and the Asian Games Youth Reporter Project on Saturday.
Bhutan Olympic Committee Secretary General Sonam Karma Tshering said that over 50 students were due to attend the Youth Reporter Project, the winner of which will be invited to the 17th Asian Games in 2014 as part of the OCA media team.
As for the Fun Learn quiz to test students’ knowledge of the Asian Games, OCA and sport in general, the invitation is open to schools so up to 100 students could attend. Both activities will take place at Lungtenzampa School in the capital Thimphu.
There is much to celebrate in Bhutan over the next few days as the King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, will mark his 33rd birthday on Thursday, February 21, sparking a three-day national holiday.
The OCA delegation arrived in Bhutan on Wednesday morning to be greeted by brilliant winter sunshine, bright blue skies, snow-capped mountains and pine forests decorating the picture postcard landscape. Representatives of the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee are due to arrive on Thursday to join in the festivities.
