President

His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck

Message from HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck,
Hon’ble President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee

As I write this message, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the spirit of our nation and the incredible potential of our youth. Sports in Bhutan have always been more than just a competition; they are a way to bring us together, to inspire us, and to showcase the very best of who we are as a people. In a country where Gross National Happiness guides our journey, sports are a vital thread in the fabric of our unity, health, and shared dreams.

Our vision for the development of sports in Bhutan is ambitious, yet deeply rooted in our cultural ethos. We aspire to build a vibrant sporting culture, where every young Bhutanese, regardless of their background, can discover and develop their talent. By staying true to the values of integrity, fairness, and inclusivity, we ensure that sports reflect the principles that define us as a nation. Transparency and accountability will be our guiding principles as we work towards a future that is financially sustainable and rich in opportunity for all.

At the heart of this mission lies the nurturing of talent among our youth. By strengthening grassroots programs, improving access to quality facilities, and creating pathways for international exposure, we aim to empower our athletes to compete at the highest levels. Their victories—on and off the field—will not only bring pride to Bhutan but also inspire countless others to dream bigger and work harder.

Sports also give Bhutan a voice beyond our borders. As a small nation, every achievement on the global stage is a reminder of what is possible when we come together with passion and determination. This is the soft power of sports: the ability to build friendships, foster understanding, and share our story with the world. To fully harness this power, we must all play our part—whether as athletes, coaches, families, sponsors, or supporters. Collaboration and open communication will be key to turning our shared vision into reality.

As we embark on this journey, I invite each of you to embrace the transformative energy of sports. Let us celebrate every effort, learn from every setback, and remain united in our pursuit of excellence. Together, we can create a future where sports are not just a source of joy and pride but also a powerful force for growth, unity, and happiness in Bhutan.

These are heartfelt prayers, hopes and aspirations for sports in Bhutan.
