The 27th Executive Committee Meeting of the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) was held today at the BOC Headquarters in Thimphu. The meeting was chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee. His Royal Highness delivered a profound address, outlining a clear and forward-looking vision for the future of sports in Bhutan.
In his remarks, His Royal Highness called upon the Executive Committee emphasized the importance of establishing a strong and enduring foundation that supports the operations and long term financial sustainability of sports federations and associations, thereby ensuring their continued capacity to contribute effectively to Bhutan’s sporting landscape. His Royal Highness proposed the exploration of innovative approaches to enhance the financial resilience and organizational stability of Bhutanese sports entities. Such measures, he noted, could gradually reduce reliance on traditional funding sources, while nurturing a vibrant and sustainable sports ecosystem that fosters growth across all levels.
Furthermore, His Royal Highness emphasized the importance of fostering enhanced collaboration with the public and private sectors as a vital component of this ongoing development. He noted that such partnerships have the potential to drive innovation, expand the range of support, and contribute to creating an environment that supports both elite athletes and grassroots programs. The key message conveyed was that Bhutan may continue to recognize sports not only as a source of national pride and passion but also as a meaningful contributor to the country’s broader social and economic advancement.
A detailed report highlighting the achievements and initiatives of the past four years was presented by Mr. Sonam Karma Tshering, Secretary General of the BOC. The report reflected on the dedication, achievements and collaborative spirit demonstrated by the outgoing Executive Committee during a period marked by immense growth as well as challenges.
The Bhutan Olympic Committee extends its heartfelt gratitude to all outgoing members of the Executive Committee. Their steadfast leadership, commitment, and passion have been instrumental in advancing Bhutanese sport and strengthening the institutional foundations of the BOC. Their contributions will leave a lasting legacy for future committees and the wider sporting community.
