Moving Together, Growing Together

Nganglam Lower Secondary School marked Olympic Day 2026 and the Sports in School volleyball finals with excitement and energy on 30 May 2026 as students, teachers, and community members gathered to celebrate the occasion.

Guided by this year’s Olympic Day theme, “Let’s Move,” the celebration encouraged participants to embrace physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and the joy of sport. The day began with a 5-kilometre fun run, where students demonstrated unity, enthusiasm, and active participation. The vibrant atmosphere continued throughout the school grounds as participants engaged in various activities that highlighted the importance of sports, teamwork, and community spirit.

Following the fun run, the official celebration commenced with the volleyball finals. The Vice Principal delivered the welcome address and highlighted this year’s theme, “Let’s Move.” The school cultural group then performed a welcome dance. In his address, the CEO of DCCL emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and spoke about the values of friendship, respect, and excellence that lie at the heart of the Olympic Movement. Students also proudly showcased their talents, adding colour and excitement to the celebration.

One of the major highlights of the day was the Volleyball Finals, where both girls’ and boys’ teams displayed remarkable determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship. In the girls’ category, Class 8C faced Class 7B, with Class 8C emerging as the winners. In the boys’ category, Class 8A competed against Class 7A, with Class 8A securing the championship title. The matches drew enthusiastic support from fellow students, teachers, and community members, creating an electrifying atmosphere and demonstrating the growing passion for sports among young people.

The event also complemented the ongoing Sports in School Project, an initiative aimed at promoting active lifestyles and strengthening grassroots sports development among students. The volleyball finals were organized as part of the project, providing students with opportunities to participate in competitive sports while developing confidence, discipline, leadership, and teamwork skills that extend beyond the playing field.

The Olympic Hub established at Nganglam Lower Secondary School showcased Olympic torches, framed displays, national team attires, and sports magazines. The hub also conducted quiz competitions among students, with winners receiving stationery items as prizes. The initiative provided students with an engaging opportunity to learn more about the Olympic Movement and Bhutan’s sporting journey.

The celebration concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates, recognizing the efforts and achievements of participants in both the fun run and the volleyball finals. More importantly, the day left lasting memories for everyone involved, reinforcing the role of sport as a powerful tool for bringing communities together and inspiring young people to lead active and healthy lives.

Through such initiatives, the Bhutan Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development and with support from Olympic Solidarity, continues to foster a vibrant sporting culture in schools and promote the Olympic values among the youth of Bhutan.
