Panbang Primary School Marks Olympic Day 2026 Through Sports in School Activities
The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) successfully conducted the Eastern Bhutan Pilot School Sports in School Project alongside the celebration of Olympic Day 2026 at Panbang Primary School in Zhemgang Dzongkhag on 29th May 2026, bringing together students, teachers, and the local community through sports and interactive activities.
This year’s Olympic Day theme, “Let’s Move,” encouraged all the students and the community to stay active, participate in sports, and embrace healthier lifestyles. The celebration created a vibrant and energetic atmosphere in Panbang, inspiring students and community members to come together through fun and inclusive sporting activities while strengthening the spirit of unity, friendship, and wellbeing.

The program was organized with the aim of promoting sports participation among school students and encouraging healthy and active lifestyles from a young age. The initiative also reflects BOC’s continued commitment towards strengthening grassroots sports development across Bhutan, especially in remote regions.
The day began with a fun run involving all the staff and students in the morning. Following the run, the program continued with the hoisting of the national flag and scout flag, along with the singing of the national anthem, creating an energetic and meaningful start to the day’s activities.
One of the major highlights of the day was the Kids Athletics Program conducted for the students. The activities were designed to make sports fun, engaging, and educational for young participants. Through running, jumping, coordination, and team-based activities, students were introduced to the importance of physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline in an enjoyable environment.

Alongside the kids athletics activities, students also participated in aerobics sessions, hurdle relay races, ladder running, tug-of-war games, fun runs, basketball and hula hoop challenges, and several interactive sports activities conducted by the Bhutan Olympic Committee team.
A mini Olympic hub was also established by the visiting team in the school campus where students were actively engaged in various educational and interactive activities. The hub provided students with opportunities to learn about the Olympic values and experience different mini games and exhibitions. Activities included recurve archery shoot-outs, carrom board games, blind football activities, displays showcasing Bhutan’s participation in the Olympic Games, exhibitions of attires used during past international sporting events, drawing and colouring of their interest and collections of sports books and magazines. The mini hub became one of the most engaging spaces of the program, allowing students to explore sports and Olympic education in a fun and meaningful way.
The program created a lively atmosphere throughout the school campus as students actively took part in the games with enthusiasm and excitement. Teachers also played an important role in supporting and guiding the students during the activities.

The Sports in School Project is more than just a sporting event. It is an opportunity to inspire young students, build confidence, encourage teamwork, and help children understand the value of sports in their daily lives. For many students in Panbang, the program provided a memorable experience and exposure to organized sporting activities.
The event concluded with certificate and prize distribution, a vote of thanks, and a lunch with students and the team. Through initiatives like this, the Bhutan Olympic Committee continues to work towards creating a vibrant sporting culture in the schools and nurturing the next generation of athletes while promoting the values of friendship, respect, teamwork, and excellence through sports.
