HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck Represents Bhutan at the 143rd IOC Session in Lausanne
Thimphu, 30 January 2025 – HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, IOC Member, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia, and President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, participated in the 143rd International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Lausanne, engaging in key discussions on sustainability, governance, and the future of the Olympic Movement.
As a member of the IOC Legacy and Sustainability Commission, HRH met with Ms. Marie Sallois, Director of the IOC’s Corporate and Sustainability Development Department, to explore ways Bhutanese Olympians can serve as sustainability ambassadors. The IOC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bhutan’s sustainability initiatives in sports.
HRH also attended the “Fashion and Sports – From One Podium to Another” program at the Olympic Museum and engaged in exclusive IOC member events, further strengthening Bhutan’s presence in the global Olympic community.
Key highlights of the session included:
- IOC Presidential Candidate Presentations, where seven contenders outlined their vision for the Olympic Movement.
- The awarding of the 2028 Winter Youth Olympic Games to Dolomiti Valtellina, Italy.
- Amendments to the Olympic Charter, including updates to International Federation names.
HRH’s participation reinforces Bhutan’s commitment to sustainability in sports and development, positioning the country as a leader in eco-conscious progress on the international stage.
