Hoops for Happiness Tour
Press Release
The Bhutan Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the Bhutan Basketball Federation and co-powered by the National Basketball Association (NBA), is hosting the official NBA Delegation Visit to Bhutan from August 1st to 5th, 2025, under the theme “Hoops for Happiness.”
The delegation includes four distinguished NBA players — Mason Plumlee, Justin Holiday, Jonathan Isaac, and AJ Green — who have joined this initiative to promote basketball development in Bhutan, inspire youth participation in sports, and support the long-term vision of building a strong basketball ecosystem in the country.
Over the past several days, the delegation has conducted youth coaching clinics, visited schools, inaugurated the Youth Basketball League, and organized a skills challenge aimed at engaging and mentoring the next generation of Bhutanese athletes. A Meet and Greet session were also held, providing basketball enthusiasts a rare opportunity to interact with the NBA players in person.
As part of the ongoing tour, an exhibition match was organized by the Bhutan Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Bhutan Basketball Federation at the Jungshina Multipurpose Court (JMC)., where the NBA players teamed up with Bhutan’s national and A-League basketball players. The match served as a platform to demonstrate elite-level skill, discipline, and professionalism, while also celebrating the spirit of the game and encouraging youth to pursue excellence in sports.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of His Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck and His Royal Highness Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck.Their presence underscored the national importance placed on youth development, the promotion of sport, and the role of physical well-being in nation-building.
Far beyond a sporting engagement, the NBA delegation’s presence in Bhutan reflects a strategic initiative to connect youth with global best practices, foster technical growth, and cultivate the confidence to pursue excellence both within and beyond the realm of basketball.
The delegation will continue their engagements in Bhutan with further activities scheduled in the coming days.
