Foundation in Youth Sports Coaching Course (29th Feb. to 5th March, 2016)

Training of  Trainers Program for the BOC Foundation in Youth Sports Coaching Course is currently going on. The course started on the 29th Feb. and will end on the 5th March, 2016 (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The course is conducted at the Conference Hall, Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation [located near Lungtenzampa]. The course is organized by the Bhutan Olympic Committee and is Funded by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development Project.

RTC – BOC Scholarship Announcement for the academic year 2016.

Royal Thimphu College (RTC) & the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) jointly announce the availability of 6 sports scholarships (2 – Basketball, 2 – Football and 2 – Open category) for the academic year 2016. Equal number of slots will be provided for male and female candidates (1 male and 1 female for each category).  The scholarship will cover all tuition and boarding costs for 3 years. Applicants who meet the RTC admissions criteria with outstanding sporting achievements may apply. Please visit the RTC website (www.rtc.bt) and the BOC website (www.bhutanolympiccommittee.com) for details on the eligibility criteria. The scholarship forms can be downloaded from the RTC and BOC website or can be collected from the RTC city office at Room # 56, Chang Lam Plaza, Thimphu or RTC office at Ngabiphu. IMPULSE Leadership Training for Women in Sports, Bhutan

A three day seminar on women in sports started on 4th of February, 2016 at the Namgay Heritage Hotel in Thimphu. This is one of the first initiatives taken by the Gender and Sports Committee of Bhutan after its establishment in 2014. The Gender and Sports Committee is a consultative body of the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) that serves as a link between the women, children and the BOC. Some of the main objectives of the Gender and Sports Committee are to emphasize the importance and assist in the promotion of women, children, and vulnerable groups in sports in the country, encourage female participation in both technical and administrative levels in sports and foster values of sports among women and children. With support from the BOC and Olympic Solidarity, the ‘IMPULSE’ seminar is conducted by Ms. Gabriela Mueller from Switzerland. Ms. Gabriela is a professional communications coach, trainer and a speaker. This seminar is anticipated to empower, support and encourage the promotion of women in sports at all levels, in all sports structures and help implement the principles of equality of men and women in sports. Further, the Gender and Sports Committee is expecting to develop a long term strategic plan, based on the findings from the seminar. The 41 participants consist of athletes, coaches, teacher and sports administrators.

12th SAG: Bhutanese Delegations (Officials & Athletes)

On 2nd February, 2016, His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, His Majesty’s Representative and President to the Bhutan Olympic Committee granted an audience to the Bhutanese delegate (Officials & Athletes) participating in the 12th South Asian Games from 5th to 17th February, 2016 which will be held in Guwahati and Shillong, India. HRH congratulated them and wished them a successful participation. HRH also mentioned that they are not only taking part in the Games but also representing Bhutan as its Ambassador.

Visit of delegation from the 12th South Asian Games to Bhutan

A delegation from the 12th South Asian Games has visited Bhutan from 14th to 17th January, 2016. Mr. Namdev S. Shirgaonker, Executive Council Member, Indian Olympic Association, officially invited the National Olympic Committee of Bhutan to participate. The delegate also gave a brief progress update and general information on the Games. The official ceremony was attended by the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federations who will be participating in the 12th South Asian Games, which is scheduled from 5th to 16th February, 2016.

Olympic Solidarity Course: ITTF-PTT Coaches Course Level I

The 8 days International Table Tennis Federation- Para Table Tennis (ITTF-PTT) Coaches Course Level I ended today. With support from the Olympic Solidarity, the Course was conducted by the Bhutan Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) at the National Table Tennis Coaching Center at Chubachu, Thimphu from 21st to 28th December, 2015. Mr. Arif Khan from Pakistan was the Course Director.
