World Archery Asia supports Bhutan’s grassroots programmes with beginner equipment

Press Release

The Bhutan Archery Federation (BAF) is pleased to announce the receipt of ten (10) recurve archery beginner sets, generously provided by World Archery Asia as a goodwill contribution to support the development of archery in Bhutan.

The equipment, gifted under the leadership of Mr. Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, President of World Archery Asia, reflects a shared commitment to strengthening grassroots development across the region under the vision of “One Vision, One Asia.” This timely support is expected to play a vital role in expanding access to structured archery training, particularly among young and emerging athletes.

The beginner sets were formally received on behalf of the Bhutan Archery Federation by Her Excellency Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, at the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Dhaka. The Federation extends its sincere appreciation to Her Excellency for facilitating the handover and ensuring the smooth transfer of the equipment.

Archery holds deep cultural significance as Bhutan’s national sport. However, the traditional format widely practiced in the country differs from international archery disciplines. While Bhutan currently fields a men’s recurve team, the absence of a women’s team and the limited number of junior athletes highlight the need for focused grassroots development.

In response, BAF has initiated targeted programmes to nurture young talent, including a pilot project at Chundu Armed Forces Public School aimed at introducing structured training at an early age. The newly received beginner sets will directly support these efforts, enabling more young Bhutanese to take up the sport and progress within the international archery framework.

On behalf of the Bhutan Archery Federation, heartfelt gratitude is extended to World Archery Asia for this meaningful contribution. The Federation also congratulates Mr. Chapol on his election as President and acknowledges his commitment to inclusive development across member associations.

BAF looks forward to continued collaboration with World Archery Asia in advancing the sport and creating greater opportunities for Bhutanese archers at all levels.
