First-Ever Bhutan National Archery Championship 2025
to Begin from June 28 at Changlimithang National Archery Stadium
Thimphu, Bhutan – June 25, 2025:
The Bhutan Olympic Committee is proud to announce the launch of the first-ever Bhutan National Archery Championship (BNAC) 2025, which will commence on June 28, 2025, at the Changlimithang National Archery Stadium in Thimphu. This landmark event is organized by the Bhutan Archery Federation in collaboration with the Bhutan Indigenous Games and Sports Association, with Yangphel Archery as the main event sponsor.
Marking a historic moment in Bhutan’s sporting journey, BNAC 2025 brings together 69 teams from across the nation in a unified celebration of competitive excellence and cultural heritage. As the first national archery championship of its kind, the tournament represents a bold step forward in promoting modern archery standards in Bhutan while continuing to uphold the values and traditions that define the nation’s most beloved sport.
The championship aims to modernize the sport through the responsible introduction of mechanical release aids (triggers), allowing each team to include up to two trigger players. This balanced approach encourages skill development and adaptation while ensuring inclusivity for traditional finger release players. Participation with triggers is encouraged but not mandatory.
Only compound bows are permitted in the tournament, along with aluminum or carbon arrows. The maximum draw weight is 70 lbs, with lower weights recommended for performance and safety. All players may use archery accessories such as sights, peeps, scopes, stabilizers, and weights, regardless of their release method.
In line with promoting fair and balanced competition, each team may include only one seeded player from the official list of 45, which has been compiled based on recent performance and form. From the 2026 edition onward, seeding will be based strictly on official results from BNAC 2025, ensuring greater transparency and merit-based recognition.
The competition format includes a league round, where three teams compete in 45 rounds (three sets of 15 rounds), with scoring based on Kuu (sets) and Karey. The knockout round will follow, scored solely on Kuu, and may include penalty shootouts to determine winners in the event of a tie. The scoring follows national rules, including the standard where an arrow touching the line of a higher scoring ring is awarded the higher point.
The Bhutan National Archery Championship 2025 is a milestone initiative aimed at advancing archery in Bhutan through innovation, skill development, and international readiness. The Bhutan Olympic Committee invites all citizens, sports lovers, and media representatives to witness this significant event and support the athletes shaping the future of Bhutanese archery.
