The Bhutan Bodybuilding Association (BBA) is delighted to announce that Bhutan will host the prestigious 15th South Asian Physique and Sports Championships 2025 from June 11th to 15th at Clock Tower, Thimphu. After 14 years, this esteemed event returns to Bhutan, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s sports community.

The official announcement was made during a press conference held at Yarkay, Thimphu – IHCL SeleQtions. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Chetan Pathare, Secretary General of the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF). The meeting was attended by Mr. Sonam Penjor, President of the Bhutan Bodybuilding Association (BBA), Mr. Sonam Tobgay, General Secretary of BBA, and Mr. Kinley Penjoy Dorji, Board Member of BBA.

The 15th South Asian Physique and Sports Championships 2025 will be hosted under the umbrella of the South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, with the full support and approval of the Bhutan Olympic Committee. The event is sanctioned by both the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF) and the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (ABPF), ensuring its credibility and international significance.

After over a decade, Bhutan is once again set to welcome athletes from across South Asia. BBA President, Mr. Sonam Penjor, expressed his enthusiasm, stating:

“We are honored to bring this prestigious championship back to Bhutan. Our team is fully prepared, and we are committed to making this event a grand success. The support from our partners and stakeholders has been phenomenal, and we are excited to showcase Bhutan’s capability in hosting a world-class sporting event.”

Adding to this sentiment, Mr. Chetan Pathare praised Bhutan’s preparations and expressed full confidence in the organizing team.

“Bhutan is more than capable of hosting an event of this magnitude. The logistics, infrastructure, and team coordination have all been impressive. The passion and dedication shown by the BBA, especially by its President, Mr. Sonam Penjor, are commendable. Everything looks absolutely perfect for a successful championship.”

Sonam Tobgay, General Secretary of BBA, confirmed that seven countries have already committed to participating, with Bangladesh expected to finalize its participation soon. The competition will feature 19 categories, offering a platform for top athletes to compete at the highest level.

The championship will be a four-day event, with June 11th and 12th dedicated to technical tests and preparations, followed by the main competitions on June 13th and 14th. The event will be broadcast live on BBS TV and WBPF TV, ensuring global coverage for bodybuilding and fitness enthusiasts.

The judging panel will include over 10 experienced judges, featuring main judges, neutral judges, and Bhutanese representatives. Additionally, renowned Stage Marshall, Mr. Samuel from Hong Kong, will oversee the event, bringing his expertise to ensure a seamless competition.

Beyond competition, the championship aims to promote bodybuilding as a natural and healthy lifestyle. Mr. Chetan Pathare emphasized:

“Bodybuilding is not just a sport; it is a way of life. We encourage athletes to embrace a natural approach to fitness and well-being. Hosting this event in Bhutan makes it even more special, as the country is known for its holistic approach to health and happiness.”

Furthermore, BBA President, Mr. Sonam Penjor, highlighted the potential of the event to boost sports tourism in Bhutan.

“This championship will serve as a springboard for future international events in Bhutan. We expect over 100 athletes from across the region, along with supporters, officials, and media.
