11th DANTAK Open Bike Race Begins in Thimphu

The 11th edition of the DANTAK Open Mountain Bike Race was flagged off this morning from Changlimithang, by His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck. The objective of event, is to celebrate the enduring friendship between India and Bhutan, highlight the contributions made by Project DANTAK and promote physical activity and sportsmanship. The race is a joint initiative of Project DANTAK and the Bhutan Olympic Committee.

Over the years, the DANTAK Open has become one of the most anticipated biking events in the country, attracting riders of all ages and backgrounds. Since its beginning more than a decade ago, the race has grown both in size and spirit.

11th DANTAK Open Bike Race Begins in Thimphu

The 2025 race is divided into two categories — 100 km and 65 km. In total, there were 183 registered riders, taking part this year. Participation Details:

In the women’s category, Pelma Chukidh, 15, is the youngest, and Lotay Zangmo, 51, is the oldest female participant this year.

By nationality:

  • Bhutanese: 132 participants
  • Indians: 46 participants
  • Other foreigners: 5 participants

The race began on a high note, with families, cycling fans, and supporters gathered at the start point to cheer on the participants. Riders of all ages and skill levels took off with focus and energy. With a strong turnout and enthusiastic participation, the 11th edition once again highlighted the growing interest in cycling and how sports can enhance people to people relationship.
