Bhutan Boxing Federation Concludes Summer Boxing Championship 2025
The Bhutan Boxing Federation (BBF) has successfully concluded its Summer Boxing Programs 2025, marking two weeks of high-energy training camps and an electrifying three-day championship aimed at promoting grassroots boxing in the country.
The highlight of the program was the Summer Boxing Championship, held from July 11–13 at the National Boxing Training Center in Thimphu, featuring 46 young athletes (30 boys, 16 girls) across 11 weight categories. The event was supported by the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) and drew an enthusiastic crowd of boxing fans.
The championship saw fierce competition among teams from BBF, Chundu Armed Forces Public School (CAFPS), and Druk Thimphu Boxing Club (DTBC).
- BBF dominated the medal tally with 8 Gold medals, while CAFPS followed closely, claiming 16 medals overall.
- DTBC fighters showcased determination, securing 10 medals, including one Gold.
Leading up to the championship, BBF organized two major training programs:
- Open Summer Boxing Camp (July 1–10) – For public school children aged 8–22, introducing the fundamentals of boxing.
- Affiliated Clubs Camp (July 3–10) – A rigorous program for junior boxers from BBF, CAFPS, and DTBC, aligned with international standards and supported by national athletes.
“The goal is to use the vacation period meaningfully and inspire the next generation of boxing champions,” said a BBF official.
Adding a unique twist, BBF arranged hikes to Tashigang-Goenpa, Dochula, and Wangdi-tse, blending fitness, mental well-being, and camaraderie among young athletes.
What’s Next for BBF?
BBF announced ambitious plans, including:
- Winter Boxing Camp for school children.
- Women in Boxing Initiative.
- International Exchange Programs for elite juniors.
- Digital Athlete Tracking System to monitor performance.
“Boxing in Bhutan is on the rise. These programs will ensure our athletes are ready for national and international platforms,” BBF officials stated.
