He Played for Bhutan, Now He Serves It
Jigme Singye’s story is the kind that young athletes in Bhutan will carry with them for years. He started at the grassroots, a boy with a bat in his hands and a passion for cricket in his heart. From Under 16 to Under 19, and finally the senior national squad, he climbed the ranks not overnight, but through patience, hard work, and unshakable belief in himself.
As captain of Bhutan’s T20 International side, Jigme led with quiet authority. He guided the team in nine matches, securing four wins, but his impact went beyond the scoreboard. He gave confidence to his teammates, built the team’s identity on the international stage, and showed that Bhutanese cricket could compete with heart and discipline.
His performances were nothing short of remarkable. His best bowling in T20 internationals, three wickets for nineteen runs, often turned games in Bhutan’s favor. With the bat, his highest score of forty-six against Cambodia showed he was a true all-rounder. And one moment stands out above all: in Thailand, against China in the ICC World Cricket League Asia Region Division One, Jigme produced a spell of eight wickets for twenty-four runs, bowling China out for just fifty-six. Bhutan chased the target without losing a wicket, but it was Jigme’s brilliance that had everyone talking.

“Excellence is never accidental. It comes when you give your all, on the field, in the classroom, and in life.” — Jigme Singye
During an international tour in Thailand, while representing Bhutan, Mr. David Buck, a respected cricket coach in Asia known for spotting talent, saw the focus, humility, and character that set Jigme apart. He recognized a young man who could grow far beyond the game.
That recognition led to a life-changing opportunity: a scholarship to study in Chiang Mai, Thailand. There, Jigme could continue his education while advancing his cricketing career. He flourished, earning respect in the cricketing community, and even gained exposure playing in Scotland. While pursuing his studies, he never paused his cricket journey, continuing to proudly represent Bhutan on the international stage. Today, he also serves as a board member of the Development Team for Bhutan Cricket, shaping the future of the sport he loves.
What makes his journey so inspiring is that Jigme never had to choose between sport and education. He pursued both with equal passion, proving that true excellence comes from balance.
On 6 April 2026, that balance opened a new chapter: Jigme Singye was appointed Drangpon Rabjam of the Supreme Court of Bhutan, a role of trust, integrity, and national service. From leading Bhutan on the cricket field to serving it in the judiciary, his journey shows that dreams are never limited to a single path. To every young athlete reading this: study hard, train harder, and believe in yourself. True success is not just reaching the top — it is the person you become along the way.
Tashi Delek, Jigme Singye. Bhutan is proud.
