Bhutan Bodybuilding Association Hosts Workshop on Nutrition, Training and Bodybuilding Science
A three day workshop on Nutrition, Training and Bodybuilding Science concluded today in Thimphu, leaving a lasting impact on the 46 participants who took part. Held under the theme “Master the Art of Intelligent Training and Nutrition Precision,” the program combined science, practice, and real world application in a way many described as transformative.
Led by Indian expert Sunil Sheoran, an elite coach, educator, and bodybuilding specialist, the workshop focused on helping participants truly understand how the body works. Rather than offering generic fitness advice, the sessions broke down the science behind muscle growth, nutrition, recovery, and performance, giving participants practical tools they can apply in their daily training and lives.
A key highlight was the strong practical component. From correct exercise techniques to smarter training methods, participants experienced hands on learning that challenged common misconceptions and introduced a more scientific approach to fitness.
Nilmar Ghalley, a professional trainer from Thimphu, shared that the workshop was worth attending, especially praising the practical sessions as eye opening and deeply informative.
B.B. Gurung of Bank of Bhutan reflected on how the training changed his perspective on food and health, noting that it clearly explained how everyday consumption of processed and unhealthy food affects the body, while guiding participants toward better lifestyle choices.
Kanjur Wangdi, a full time trainer from Samdrup Jongkhar, emphasized that the workshop is valuable not just for fitness professionals but for anyone interested in improving their health, calling it meaningful and impactful.
Even experienced athletes found new insights. Ugyen Pem, a gold medalist and champion bodybuilder, shared that despite years in the field, the workshop offered fresh learning. She highlighted how complex ideas were explained in a simple and practical way, making it easy to understand and apply.
Sonam Tobgay, General Secretary of the Bhutan Bodybuilding Association, described the initiative as a significant milestone, noting that it is the first time such a professional international expert has been brought in to directly support the growth of athletes and trainers in Bhutan.
Dr. Sonam Penjor, President of the Bhutan Bodybuilding Association, highlighted the diverse participation, with attendees from different dzongkhags, sports federations, and backgrounds. He emphasized that true health goes beyond exercise, requiring a deeper understanding of nutrition, recovery, and training science, which is exactly what this workshop delivered. The workshop concluded with a certification ceremony, but for many, it felt like a starting point rather than an ending. With new knowledge and practical skills, participants are now better equipped to apply what they learned in real training environments.
