Bhutan to Host 2027 World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships for the First Time

In a landmark decision for the nation’s sporting history, the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF) has officially awarded Bhutan the hosting rights for the 18th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships and Electoral Congress. This prestigious event is scheduled to take place in Thimphu from November 2nd to 8th, 2027. For the first time ever, Bhutan will be the host nation for this event.

This confirmation, received in a letter dated September 18, 2025, from WBPF President Datuk Paul Chua, marks a significant milestone for the Bhutanese sports community. The Bhutan Bodybuilding Association (BBA), led by its president, Dr. Sonam Maekay Penjor, formally expressed interest in hosting the international competition.

The event is expected to attract athletes from across the globe, bringing international attention to the Himalayan kingdom and showcasing Bhutan’s capacity to host a world-class sporting event.

The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Bhutan Bodybuilding Association (BBA) on the historic achievement of being awarded the hosting rights for the 18th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships and Electoral Congress.

This accomplishment, the first of its kind for our nation, is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and vision of the BBA and its leadership. We are confident that this championship will be a tremendous success, showcasing the rich culture, unique hospitality, and strong spirit of the Bhutanese people to the world.

The BOC looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the BBA and all stakeholders to ensure that this event is a resounding success, leaving a lasting legacy for sports development in the country.
