A Leap Forward in Bhutanese Media Education
Bhutan’s Future Communicators Stun with LIVE Sports Interview
Something incredible happened today at the Bhutan Olympic Committee. As part of the Summer Immersion Media and Communication Program, a group of bright students turned their learning into real-world action — and the result? A LIVE interview with Mr. Mario Jorge Leandro da Silva, UEFA A-Licensed Coach and Technical Director of Transport United FC, all the way from Portugal!
The spotlight was confidently held by Ugyen Kundrol Wangchuk, a student from Dechencholing Higher Secondary School, who conducted the session with clarity, curiosity, and class. What unfolded wasn’t just an interview — it was an inspiring conversation about football, leadership, and Bhutan’s potential.

Mr. Mario shared powerful insights from his coaching journey across Europe, speaking about football’s role in community building, mental wellness, and youth development. His passion was evident as he reflected on the technical brilliance he’s already witnessed in Bhutanese players.
“When I told my friends I was going to Bhutan, they said there’s no football there. But what I’ve seen here is special — smart players, real talent, and so much heart.”
He praised Bhutan’s football culture and encouraged greater investment in youth programs and infrastructure — starting from the grassroots, just like in Belgium and Germany where he began his coaching path.
This interview wasn’t a scripted classroom exercise. It was a full-scale production — planned, coordinated, and delivered by the students themselves. They managed everything: pre-interview research, technical setup, live coordination, and follow-up discussion.
Their confidence and professionalism left everyone in the room speechless. And the best part? They’re just getting started.
These students will soon return to their schools — but not empty-handed. They’ll carry with them new skills, a real taste of media work, and a powerful reminder of what they’re capable of. The mic is no longer intimidating. It’s an opportunity.
Today’s event showcased more than football. It showcased vision, preparation, and belief in the youth of Bhutan. The Bhutan Olympic Committee proudly supported this initiative, and what these students achieved proves that when we invest in young minds, they rise far above expectations.
To Ugyen and his fellow participants: you’ve shown courage, creativity, and commitment. You’ve reminded us all that the future of Bhutan is not waiting quietly — it’s already speaking, already doing.
And to Mr. Mario — thank you for your openness, your humility, and for believing in Bhutanese football.
