Bhutan’s Young Tennis Stars Set for
Junior Davis Cup Pre-Qualifiers
Two of Bhutan’s most promising young tennis players, Khedrup Norbu Jurmi and Tshering Dorji, are all set to represent the country at the Junior Davis Cup Under-16 Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Kuching, Malaysia from March 8 to 16, 2025. Departing on March 7, they will compete against 27 countries in a group-stage format, playing around 3 to 4 matches per team. If they qualify, they will advance to the final qualification round, bringing them one step closer to the Junior Davis Cup.

Both players secured their spots through outstanding performances at the Under-16 Junior National Open Championship held in Phuentsholing last month, finishing as winner and first runner-up. Khedrup, a Class 10 student at Ugyen Academy, has been playing tennis since the age of six and has already claimed multiple national titles. Tshering, a Class 8 student at Phuentsholing Higher Secondary School, started his tennis journey at ten and has also won major junior championships.
This will be their first time competing in this tournament, but they are no strangers to international matches. Since January 25, they have been undergoing intensive training at the Bhutan Tennis Federation’s court in Changlimithang, guided by Coach Yonten Gyeltshen and his team. Their training includes tactical drills, technical improvements, and intense fitness sessions to prepare them for the high level of competition they will face.
Last year, Bhutan was represented by two female players in the same tournament, and this year, Khedrup and Tshering are carrying the nation’s hopes forward. Their hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport are inspiring, and they are ready to give their best on the international stage.
