At the 9th Asian Winter Games held in Harbin, China, from February 7 to 14, 2025, Bhutan marked a significant milestone by making its debut in the event. The nation’s sole representative, Chencho Dorji, not only competed in alpine skiing but also had the honor of being Bhutan’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony.
The Asian Winter Games featured 64 medal events across six sports disciplines, including biathlon, curling, ice hockey, skating, skiing, and ski mountaineering. Harbin, often referred to as the “Ice City,” provided a fitting backdrop for these competitions.
Bhutan’s participation, though limited to a single athlete, was a testament to the nation’s commitment to fostering winter sports and gaining international exposure. The Bhutan Olympic Committee officially confirmed the country’s involvement, highlighting its dedication to nurturing talent in winter disciplines.
Chencho Dorji’s role as the flag bearer was symbolic of Bhutan’s aspirations and pride on the international stage serves as an inspiration for future generations of Bhutanese athletes.
