A joint press conference was held today at the premises of the Bhutan Olympic Committee to officially announce the Four Nations Boxing Championship 2025, which will take place from April 11 to April 13 in Thimphu, Bhutan. The event is planned to be held at Clock Tower Square, in the heart of the city. In case of unfavorable weather, the venue will be shifted to the Bhutan Boxing Federation Hall.

The conference was attended by officials and athletes from the four participating countries – Bhutan, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal – who shared their thoughts, hopes, and preparations with the media.

Representing Team Bhutan, Coach Girchungla was joined by boxers Tashi Yoezer and Kinga Wangmo. From India, Jas Lal Pradhan, President of the Sikkim Boxing Association, was present with Coach Sandhya Gurung, and boxers Pema Ongmu Bhutia and Krishna Kailash Rai. Team Bangladesh was represented by Coach Shafiul Azam and athletes MD. Salim Hossain and Jannatul Ferdous, while Coach Deepak Maharjan led Team Nepal along with Lal Prasad Upreti and Ramisha Shrestha.

Speaking at the press conference, Coach Girchungla of Bhutan expressed confidence in the home team:

We have been preparing intensively for the past two months, and I believe our team is in a strong position to win medals in this championship.

Boxer Tashi Yoezer also spoke about the opportunity:

We may have some advantage due to the climate and altitude, which could affect the other teams. But once we step into the ring, it’s all about skill and focus. We’re hopeful that Team Bhutan will deliver and win medals.

Jas Lal Pradhan from India emphasized the importance of mental strength and readiness:

“We have experienced boxers on our team, but once you’re inside the ring, experience alone isn’t enough. What really matters is how mentally and physically prepared you are to face your opponent.

Coach Shafiul Azam from Bangladesh noted the environmental challenges but remained positive:

It has been a bit difficult for our team to acclimatize to the cold weather here in Bhutan, but our athletes are well-prepared and ready to face any challenges that come their way.

For Team Nepal, Coach Deepak Maharjan highlighted the significance of the tournament:

Mental and physical preparedness is essential when competing at this level. This championship is a great opportunity for our players not only to perform here, but also to gain experience that will help them in future tournaments like the South Asian Games and the Asian Games.

All four teams acknowledged that the main purpose of the tournament is to provide greater inter-country exposure for young boxers, helping them grow in both confidence and skill. They shared that over the past few days, joint training sessions have been conducted among the teams, and the experience has been deeply enriching. Athletes and coaches spoke of valuable learning from one another and described the sharing of techniques and strategies as a special highlight of their time in Bhutan.

The visiting teams from India, Bangladesh, and Nepal were unanimous in expressing their gratitude to Bhutan for the warm welcome and thoughtful hospitality, which they said had made them feel at home.
