Sri Lanka Clinches Glory as Bhutan Hosts First-Ever Badminton Asia South Asia Regional Championships 2025

For the first time in its sporting history, Bhutan proudly hosted the Badminton Asia South Asia Regional Championships 2025, turning the Bhutan Badminton Federation Hall in Bebena, Thimphu into a hub of energy, excitement, and unforgettable sporting moments from August 15 to 22.

Organized by the Bhutan Badminton Federation in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) under the umbrella of Badminton Asia, and backed by Victor Sports as the main sponsor, the week-long tournament brought together 61 junior athletes from Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, competing in U15, U17, and the newly introduced U23 categories across singles and doubles.

From the very first serve, the championships crackled with intensity. Matches were fiercely contested, with long rallies, dramatic comebacks, and an undeniable sense of sportsmanship that had fans cheering for every nation.

Nepal, meanwhile, were the tournament’s fearless challengers. Their athletes battled with relentless determination, finishing runners-up in both the U15 and U17 categories and pushing Sri Lanka to the edge in several close matches. Pakistan shone brightest in the U23 division, where their resilience and quick reflexes earned them second place — a sign of a strong generation rising in their ranks.

At the closing medal ceremony, the General Secretary Bhutan Badminton Federation, applauded all athletes for embodying the spirit of fair play and unity. “This championship has shown us not just winners, but role models for the next generation. The future of badminton in South Asia is in safe and passionate hands,” he remarked.

The Badminton Asia South Asia Regional Championships 2025 will be remembered not only for Sri Lanka’s clean sweep but also for the way it united nations in the love of sport.
