Sarpang Central School
Established in 1962, Sarpang Central School (SCS) holds a distinguished place in the educational history of Sarpang Dzongkhag. As the earliest centre of formal education in the region, the school began modestly, offering only primary-level education. Over the decades, it has steadily grown in scope and stature, evolving to meet the expanding educational needs of the community it serves. From its humble beginnings, SCS has emerged as a cornerstone institution—one that continues to shape generations of learners while remaining deeply rooted in its historical legacy.
Sarpang Central School is located at Sarpang Tar, Shompangkha Gewog, within Sarpang Dzongkhag. The school’s spacious and well-laid campus provides an enabling environment for academic learning, co-curricular activities, and meaningful community engagement. Its setting supports not only classroom instruction but also holistic student development through sports, culture, and shared experiences.
One of the most distinctive features of SCS is the history museum housed within the school campus—a rare and remarkable initiative among Bhutanese schools. The museum preserves a rich collection of ancient Bhutanese artefacts, including old coins, traditional spirit lamps, and early Bhutanese Ngultrum. These artefacts serve as more than historical displays; they are powerful educational tools. By encouraging observation, discussion, and reflection, the museum allows students to engage with Bhutan’s past beyond textbooks, fostering a deeper appreciation of national history, culture, and identity.
With a population of approximately 1,350 students and 80 staff members—both teaching and non-teaching—Sarpang Central School functions as a close-knit learning community. Guided by its vision of being a centre of academic excellence with a nurturing environment for the all-round development of every student, the school remains committed to shaping responsible and capable future citizens. This commitment is reinforced through its mission, which emphasizes quality education grounded in physical, mental, and spiritual development, ensuring that students are prepared not only academically but also ethically and socially.
Today, Sarpang Central School stands at the heart of national sporting activity as the host venue of the 17th National School Games 2025. The campus is alive with energy as athletes, coaches, teachers, and officials from across the country converge at SCS—each bringing with them dedication, discipline, and the spirit of competition forged through countless hours of training.
Their presence has transformed the school into a vibrant sporting hub, underscoring SCS’s growing role not only in education but also in nation-building through school sports. The collective passion, effort, and perseverance on display make Sarpang Central School a truly respected and merited institution—one that continues to contribute meaningfully to Bhutan’s educational and sporting journey.
