Sarpang Strikers Clinch BTCL Women’s T20 Smash 2025 Title

Thimphu, July 13 — The Sarpang Strikers emerged victorious in the BTCL Women’s T20 Smash 2025, defeating Thimphu CC in a tightly contested final held at Jigmethang Cricket Ground in Thimphu today.

The final match, which drew a strong crowd, was graced by Her Excellency Lyonpo Yeezang Dee Thapa, Minister for Education and Skills Development, who attended as the chief guest. Lyonpo commended both teams for their performance and highlighted the importance of such tournaments in promoting women’s participation in sports across the country.

Thimphu CC opted to bat first after winning the toss, however, Sarpang Strikers posted a competitive total, thanks to a solid start from their top-order batters. Their calculated aggression and quick running between the wickets kept the scoreboard ticking and added pressure on the Thimphu CC bowlers.

In response, Thimphu CC began the chase with intent, but Sarpang’s bowlers struck at crucial moments, picking up key wickets in the middle overs. Despite a determined effort towards the end, Thimphu’s run chase fell short, handing Sarpang Strikers a well-deserved win.

Speaking after the match, Sarpang Strikers captain Ngawang Choden credited the team’s preparation and determination. “Our team consist of young players, and going up against a strong side like Thimphu CC was challenging. But we did our homework and stuck to our plans, which helped us lift the title,” she said.

Thimphu CC’s coach Tenzin Wangchuk acknowledged the pressure his team faced early in the match. “It was my first time leading the team. The result didn’t go our way, but the players gave their best. We lost early wickets, which made things difficult, but the team showed good character,” he shared.

The BTCL Women’s T20 Smash 2025 has once again underlined the growing standard of women’s cricket in Bhutan. As the tournament comes to a close, it leaves behind stories of emerging talent, spirited competition, and renewed hope for the future of women’s participation in the sporting community.
