Bhutan’s Youth Embrace the Olympic Spirit at
Fun Run 2025

Thimphu, April 3, 2025 – The spirit of sportsmanship and unity was in full stride this morning as Bhutan hosted the Fun Run 2025, an exciting side program of the ongoing forum aimed at fostering youth participation and promoting Olympic values. With over 250 students from five major schools in Thimphu—Yangchenphu High School, Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School, Pelkhi School, Druk School, and Thimphu High School—the event brought energy and enthusiasm to the Fun Run.

The race, covering a scenic 2.5-kilometer route from Devi Panchayan Mandir to the Buddha Dordenma statue, was flagged off by OCA Deputy Director General Mr. Vinod Tiwari, while the official race start was signaled by a gunshot from Mr. Wissam Trkmani, Director of Development & NOC Relations. As the starting signal rang out, the runners took off with excitement, embodying the core values of the Olympic movement—friendship, respect, and excellence.

Laughter and cheers echoed along the route as participants pushed their limits, enjoying not just the competition but the sense of community and shared passion for sports. Teachers, volunteers, and spectators lined the streets, encouraging the young athletes as they made their way to the finish line at one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks, the Buddha Dordenma.

In addition to fostering the Olympic spirit and promoting youth engagement in sports, the Fun Run also highlighted the upcoming 20th Asian Games—officially known as Aichi-Nagoya 2026—set to be held in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan. Through activities like this, Bhutanese youth are gaining greater awareness of the event’s significance while embracing the values of sportsmanship and international unity.
