BEAST Athletes Undergo
Comprehensive Biometric and Nutrition Assessment

A total of 34 high-performance athletes under the BEAST (Bhutan Elite Athlete Support & Training) program underwent a comprehensive Body Biometric Testing and Nutrition Assessment on 30th November 2025, conducted in two batches at the National Coaching Academy of the Bhutan Olympic Committee. The initiative is part of BOC’s ongoing efforts to enhance the competitive readiness of national and professional athletes.

The assessments brought together athletes from six National Sports Federations: the Bhutan Amateur Athletics Federation, Bhutan Archery Federation, Bhutan Taekwondo Federation, Bhutan Shooting Federation, Bhutan Boxing Federation, and the Bhutan Judo Association. Designed to support long-term athlete development, the program aims to provide a scientific foundation for planning individualized training and nutrition strategies for the coming year.

Each athlete underwent detailed body composition analysis using the Accuniq machine, an advanced system that measures fat percentage, muscle distribution, metabolic rate, and other key physiological parameters essential for high-performance monitoring. This data serves as baseline information for coaches, physiotherapists, and sports science personnel to make evidence-based adjustments to training programs.

Following the biometric assessment, blood samples of all athletes were collected to evaluate crucial health indicators such as iron levels, vitamin status, hydration markers, and metabolic function. These results help identify underlying factors that may influence endurance, recovery, immunity, and overall athletic performance.

To ensure accuracy and professional medical support, professionals from Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) were invited specifically for the assessment. Two nutritionists and two trained blood sample collectors supported the program, with the nutritionists conducting individual consultations to review the athletes’ dietary habits and develop sport-specific nutrition plans aligned with international high-performance standards.

Physio - Nirmal Pradhan
Physiotherapist Mr. Nirmal Pradhan emphasized the value of such initiatives, stating, “Individually assessing the diet plans is crucial to enhancing the athletes’ overall performance during competitions and ensuring they maintain a healthy lifestyle. These assessments give us precise information to help them grow stronger and more competitive.”

The BEAST program continues to play a vital role in elevating Bhutan’s top athletes by integrating scientific testing, professional nutrition guidance, and tailored training interventions—reinforcing the nation’s commitment to supporting athletes on their pathway to excellence.
