PRESS RELEASE
Bhutan to Participate in the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain
Bhutan is proud to announce its participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2025, to be held from October 22nd to 31st, 2025, in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. Organized under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the AYG brings together Asia’s most promising young athletes in a celebration of sportsmanship, excellence, and unity.
About the Asian Youth Games
The Asian Youth Games (AYG) serve as a developmental platform for athletes aged 14 to 17, offering opportunities to gain international exposure, test their sporting abilities, and foster intercultural understanding through competition.
The Games were first hosted in Singapore (2009) and later in Nanjing, China (2013). Now, after more than a decade, the third edition returns in Bahrain, promising to be the largest and most diverse yet.
The AYG 2025 will feature 26 sports disciplines (up from 24 in 2013), encompassing 259 medal events. Over 4,000 athletes from 45 Asian nations will compete in a mix of Olympic and regional sports, including exciting new additions such as camel racing, esports, futsal, teqball, and triathlon — highlighting the dynamic evolution of youth sports across the continent.
Bhutan’s Journey at the AYG
Bhutan’s participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 marks the nation’s third appearance at this continental event, following previous representations in 2009 (Singapore) and 2013 (Nanjing). Over the years, Bhutan’s continued involvement has reflected its deep commitment to nurturing young sporting talent, expanding international representation, and building a culture of athletic excellence.
For the 3rd edition, Team Bhutan will compete in six sports disciplines:
Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Swimming, and Muay Thai.
These selections represent Bhutan’s growing investment in youth sports development and a balanced focus on endurance, combat, and aquatic disciplines.
