Coaches Gain Key Sport Science Skills as
Week-Long Workshop Concludes

Thimphu, 29 November 2025 — The Sport Science & Wellness Support Workshop, organized by the Bhutan Aquatics Federation (BAF) with support from FINA (World Aquatics)  is hosted by the National Coaching Academy at the Bhutan Olympic Committee, concluded today after six days of intensive learning involving coaches from various national sports federations. The six-day program brought together coaches from various national sports federations to strengthen Bhutan’s capacity in evidence-based and athlete-centered coaching.

The week-long workshop provided a comprehensive journey through crucial sports science disciplines. Daily sessions covered the fundamental principles of Human Anatomy & Physiology, followed by deep dives into Sports Fundamental Movements and the practical application of Strength and Conditioning. The latter half of the week focused on optimizing performance through Sports Nutrition and enhancing mental fortitude via Sports Psychology, concluding with essential training structure topics: Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation & Periodization.

Led by Physio Sonam, the workshop covered key domains including Human Anatomy & Physiology, Sports Fundamental Movements, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation, and Periodization.

The workshop will have lasting advantages for Bhutan’s sporting community, strengthening coaching structures, improving athlete welfare, and contributing to more consistent development pathways across federations.

As Bhutan continues moving toward a more scientific approach to sport, the momentum from this workshop aligns closely with the country’s growing interest in formal sport science education. The learnings gained over the past week are expected to complement and support participants who may take part in the upcoming Foundational Sports Science Certification Course, further enhancing the nation’s coaching capacity and long-term athletic development ecosystem.

Associate Lecturere, Tshetrim Yoezer noted the broader significance of such capacity-building efforts, stating,

“Workshops like this create a solid foundation for a more professional and science-driven sports system. The long-term impact will be seen in better coaching practices, healthier athletes, and stronger competition outcomes nationwide.”

Participants also expressed appreciation for the learning experience. The attendees consisted primarily of coaches from various national sports federations, along with a few athletes who are exploring pathways into professional sports management and coaching roles. Their diverse backgrounds enriched the workshop environment, creating a dynamic exchange of ideas between experienced coaches and aspiring sports professionals.
