Day Two of Bhutan Grand Prix III 2026 Kicks Off
Thimphu, 28 February — The 3rd Edition of the Bhutan Grand Prix III was officially inaugurated at Babena Football Ground, Thimphu, by His Excellency Lyonpo Tshering, Minister of Home Affairs, marking the formal commencement of one of Bhutan’s premier international archery competitions. Officials from the Bhutan Olympic Committee and representatives of various national sports federations also attended the opening ceremony.
The ceremony began with the traditional Marchang ceremony, followed by a welcome address delivered by the General Secretary of the Bhutan Archery Federation. In his remarks, the General Secretary extended heartfelt appreciation to all participating athletes, with special acknowledgment to the visiting Indian team for travelling to Bhutan to compete in this prestigious tournament.
In his address, His Excellency emphasized the importance of hosting high-level international competitions that promote sporting excellence while preserving Bhutan’s rich cultural connection to archery. He commended all participants for their commitment, sportsmanship, and dedication to advancing the sport.
This year’s edition has drawn a total of 43 archers, including 26 competitors in the Compound category and 17 in the Recurve category. In terms of national representation, 19 Bhutanese archers and 24 Indian archers are competing, highlighting strong regional participation and collaboration between the two nations in the sport.
The tournament, supported by the Embassy of India, Thimphu, continues to strengthen international sporting ties while showcasing Bhutan’s enduring archery legacy on a competitive global platform.
