Bhutan Grand Prix III Officially Begins
Thimphu is buzzing with excitement as the Bhutan Grand Prix III is set to begin tomorrow at the Babena Artificial Turf. Today, 43 archers, including top talents from Bhutan and India, gathered for official practice and equipment checks, fine-tuning their focus and preparing for what promises to be one of the most thrilling competitions in recent years. Scheduled from 28th February to 1st March 2026, the event reflects Bhutan’s growing ambition to blend its rich archery heritage with international standards.
Organized by the Bhutan Archery Federation in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee and proudly supported by the Embassy of India, the Grand Prix has become more than just a tournament. It is a stage where tradition meets elite performance, where emerging talent gets a chance to shine, and where cultural exchange thrives alongside competition. Over the past editions, the Grand Prix has steadily evolved from a national showcase into a respected platform for regional archers to measure their skills under Olympic-style rules, raising both technical and competitive standards.
This year, the stakes are higher than ever. The total prize pool of Nu. 605,000 (Six Hundred and Five Thousand only) underscores the event’s commitment to rewarding excellence and inspiring archers to reach new heights. Individual events alone account for Nu. 375,000, with top prizes for compound men and women, recurve men, and a special category for upcoming Bhutanese archers. Team and mixed events further ensure that skill, strategy, and coordination are equally celebrated. For young Bhutanese archers, the “Upcoming Archer” category provides an unprecedented opportunity to gain recognition and experience on a larger stage.
The Bhutan Grand Prix III is also a unique platform for archers to gain exposure to international competition formats, aligning their training with Olympic standards and preparing them for future global tournaments. Beyond scores and medals, the event fosters a vibrant exchange of culture and techniques, helping archers broaden their perspectives while building confidence to compete at higher levels. Coaches, officials, and spectators alike recognize the tournament as an essential step in nurturing talent, enhancing performance, and preparing Bhutanese athletes for international success.
As the elimination rounds begin tomorrow and the finals take place on 1st March, anticipation is at its peak. Every arrow released, every target hit, will not only reflect personal skill but also the dedication and passion that have propelled Bhutanese archery from a treasured tradition to a competitive force on the international stage. The Bhutan Grand Prix III is set to be remembered not just for its prizes and champions, but as a defining moment in the evolution of archery in the kingdom.
