Beyond the construction of infrastructure, the FIFA Arena initiative serves as a powerful platform for youth development, social inclusion and positive community engagement. Each mini pitch is developed with sustainability at its core, using a FIFA selected turf system, along with technical installation guidance and ongoing maintenance training to ensure long term use and impact.

The initiative was launched by FIFA President Gianni Infantino following the 2024 Summit on Sports for Sustainable Development. It aims to complete 1,000 high quality and sustainable mini pitches globally by 2031. More than 50 member associations have already joined the initiative, with installations underway in countries such as Costa Rica, Malaysia, Indonesia and Morocco.

In Bhutan, the Bhutan Football Federation has successfully installed two mini pitches under the FIFA Arena project. The facilities are located at Loseling Middle Secondary School in Thimphu and Tendruk Central School in Samtse.

The inauguration of the FIFA Arena project reflects Bhutan’s continued commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting football as a means of empowering communities. By expanding access to well designed and secure football facilities, the initiative underscores the transformative power of sport in shaping healthier, more inclusive societies.
