Foundational Sports Science Course Successfully Concludes with Certificate Awarding
Thimphu, Bhutan – 6th February 2026
The Foundational Sports Science Course, conducted by the National Coaching Academy, has successfully concluded, with certificates awarded to all participants. The course, which commenced on 5 January 2026, was supported by the Bhutan Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity, marking a meaningful step toward strengthening scientific understanding and best practices within Bhutan’s sporting community.
Designed to enhance knowledge of the science behind sports, the course equipped participants with foundational concepts applicable across coaching, training, physical education, and fitness settings. The program emphasized how scientific principles can be translated into practical applications that contribute to performance improvement and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Participants shared positive reflections on the impact of the course. One participant, Tashi Jamtsho, shared that “as a coach, it is a great honour to be able to learn such courses which not only helped me understand and learn about the science behind sports, but also know what and how such knowledge can be applied further to improve the healthy living style of the students.”
Another participant, Ms. Kinzang, a bodybuilder, stated that “as a bodybuilder, I knew nothing except for my daily routine, which I followed, but hereafter, with the knowledge gained on periodization, human anatomy, and many others, I’m sure to implement this into my training and also to others whom I train.”

In-House Exhibition Highlights Practical Application of Sports Science
As part of the course culmination, an in-house exhibition was conducted yesterday, during which participants showcased key areas of sports science learning. The exhibition featured practical demonstrations and displays on the blood circulatory system, muscle movements, energy systems, and the human nervous system, allowing participants and visitors to gain a clearer understanding of how these systems function in relation to sports and physical activity.
In addition to the educational displays, individuals participating in the exhibition were also offered blood pressure check-ups and Accuniq machine assessments. These assessments enabled participants to better understand their body composition, reinforcing the practical relevance of sports science concepts in monitoring health and physical fitness. The exhibition served as a hands-on learning platform where theoretical knowledge was effectively translated into real-world application, further highlighting the practical orientation of the Foundational Sports Science Course.
The successful completion of the Foundational Sports Science Course reflects a strong commitment toward building a scientifically informed sporting community in Bhutan. The course was conducted by the National Coaching Academy, with the support of the Bhutan Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity, highlighting a shared vision to enhance coaching education, promote evidence-based sports practices, and contribute meaningfully to the long-term development of sport and healthy lifestyles in the country.
