His Highness Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani Elected as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
The Bhutan Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federation extend our warmest congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani on his election as President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), following the 46th OCA General Assembly held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
His Highness Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani in his inaugural address, expressed humility and deep gratitude for the trust placed in him, noting that he never imagined he would one day stand as President of the Olympic Council of Asia. His remarks reflected a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to serving Asia’s athletes, National Olympic Committees, and the wider Olympic Movement with dedication and integrity.
Guided by his unifying vision, “Together for Asia,” he highlighted the importance of solidarity, cooperation, good governance, athlete welfare, sustainability, and the role of sport in fostering peace and mutual respect across the continent. This vision strongly resonates with the collective aspirations of the Asian sporting community.
The newly elected OCA President was also conferred the prestigious Shon-Sharaf (Order ofGlory) by H.E. Shavkat, Mirziyoyev, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of sport and the Olympic Movement in Asia.
At the same time, sincere appreciation is conveyed to the former President of the Olympic Council of Asia, H.E. Mr. Raja Randhir Singh, for his decades of exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to Asian sport. His visionary stewardship and tireless service have laid a strong and enduring foundation for the continued progress of the OCA. As the Olympic Council of Asia embarks on this new chapter, strong confidence is placed in H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani’s leadership to further strengthen unity, elevate athlete development, and advance Olympic values across Asia.
